About the project

The Outlaw List is a storytelling project about notorious figures of the past, and the design needed to feel like stepping into an old wanted poster without becoming hard to read.

We combined vintage textures, bold slab-serif headings and archival-style imagery with a clean, modern reading layout. Long-form stories are broken up with pull quotes, timelines and images, which keeps readers moving through the page.

A simple category system lets visitors explore by era or by type of story, and every article links to related tales, which keeps readers on the site longer and helps search engines understand how the content fits together.

Our approach

The project began with the story format. Each article follows a consistent structure: a short hook, the background of the figure, the key events and what became of them, so readers always know where they are in the story even when the article is long.

We designed a custom set of visual elements to support that structure, including wanted-poster style headers, timeline blocks and quote cards. They give the site a distinctive personality while keeping the reading experience clean and comfortable on phones and desktops alike.

Finally, we set up category pages by era and theme, so readers who finish one story are naturally invited to explore the next one.

The result

The end result is a site that looks like nothing else in its niche and keeps readers moving from one story to the next.
